Tale of One City
To tourist Rio De Janerio means ; Carnival, good food, beautiful beaches and bikini models. To the poor it means living in the crowded , unsanitary and drug infested favellas. There are more than 800 favellas in Rio and they came into existance after the Canudos Civil in 1895 -1896.The soldiers and people of African decent built houses from whatever materials they can find because the government failed to accomodate them with housing after the war! See video slide show below.

Finally made it!
We arrived in Sao Paulo, on schedule but was delayed for 30 minutes, because another plane was late which put us in Rio around 11 a.m. I out smarted myself with the currency exchange becuase from my past trips it was cheaper to do it in town than at the airport.I caught a bus and transfered to a cab.The fare was 6.85 R about $5 us . I gave the cab driver $10 , I was suprised that he brought the money back to the hotel so they can change it over.He was so nice I still gave him a tip. From that situation I knew I was going to have a good trip!
After getting settle my room, I went on a tour in the favellas ( pictures posted later) .Basically the favellas is ran by drug dealers and they knew my tour guide so they did not bother us.It was sad to see little children in those conditions. We definitely have a lot to thankful for in the U.S.
